Yes Planet Jerusalem

Lately there has been a trend towards large entertainment complexes in Israel, with cinemas, restaurants, and shops. These are mostly parts of chains, the two main ones being Cinema City and Yes Planet. In Jerusalem there are both. The Yes Planet is located in Abu Tur, close to Hebron Road. It is unique because, unlike many recreational centers in the city, it is open all week, even on Shabbat. The center has been open for a couple of years and is still considered fairly new.

The complex has many different shops and restaurants, and so visitors can enjoy a range of activities. The different restaurants at the center include: Burgers Bar, Bar 55, Aroma, McDonalds, and a pizza place. There is also a kiosk and an ice-cream shop. Almost all of these are open on Shabbat, but some are Kosher and close to observe the religious day, and so are able to provide services to the observant customers of the complex. During the weekends and on holidays, there are activities for children such as coloring, bouncy castles, and more. Sometimes they even host children’s’ plays and adult concerts. All events that I have been exposed to are free. The residents of Jerusalem who visit Yes Planet can enjoy a full day of activities and family - bonding.

As for the cinema itself, they have many different movies screened at all times, including Israeli, American, and foreign films.

As a secular resident of Jerusalem, I think it is important to support the places that are open on Shabbat in order to encourage more businesses to open and serve the secular community!

  1. Eden,

I have an extremely important question: is the bouncy house always there, or only sometimes?

Haha, funny question! I don't know if it's always there but I think only sometimes.
